Foresight
is the process involved in systematically attempting to look into the
longer-term future of science, technology, the economy, environment and society
with the aim of identifying the emerging generic technologies and the
underpinning areas of strategic research likely to yield the greatest economic
and social benefits. In recent years most industrialized countries have
conducted national technology foresight studies in order to define research
priorities and elicit national S&T priorities to look at the future from a
broad range of complementary viewpoints. As a result of that, technology
foresight studies have become very important in regards to the design and application of technology policies and have
been widely used in a great number of countries.
This
study is focusing on the renewable energy technologies which will be available
in the next decades and attempts to review and analyze strategic technologies.
The objective of the study is to describe trends in the development of
renewable energy technologies,
to highlight R&D priorities and critically discuss the data gathered from
foresight studies of various industrialized countries.
