Özet

In the beginning of the 20th century, modernization movement started in the educational life in the direction of the changing social life and the age demands in Turkistan. Other jadid intellectuals besides İsmail Gaspıralı has also played an important role in the systematic spread of the “usul-i cedit” movement, in the establishment of this new educational method among the Muslims of Russia. Hamza Hekimzade Niyazi, one of the important names of the Uzbek jadid movement, also traveled to foreign countries between 1911 and 1914 and met with the idea of reforming old schools and medrese. As a result of these trips, Niyazi has opened a new style schools by learning the schedules of the jadid schools and the textbooks. The absence of textbooks suitable for the new style of education method in these schools led the jadid intellectuals to write textbooks. In order to fill this gap in education, Niyazi prepared textbooks such as “Yeñil Edebiyat”, “Okış Kitabı” and “Kıraat Kitabı”. In this work, we will talk about Niyazi’s “Okış Kitabı” which was taught after the alphabet was taught in 1914. Key Words: Modernization, Usul-i Cedit, Textbook, Okış Kitabı, Hamza Hekimzade Niyazi.
