ABSTRACT
Avaluable product that sewage
sludge contains in organic matter and nutrients, has become an important
problem with negative effects on the environment. The effect of sewage sludge
applied in four different doses to soil as 0 %, 20 %, 40 %, 60 % respectivly on
the growth, yield and flower quality of Rosa canina 'Laxa' grafted on Rosa
sp. "Akito" were investigated. The results associated with plant
growth, yield and quality parameters indicated that shoot and root fresh and
dry weight per plant, root lenght of plant, flower number per plant, flower
body lenght and width, Bud lenght and width increased by the application of
sewage sludge. The maximum values for the parameters were observed in media
containing % 40 sewage sludge but with more increasing sewage sludge dosage,
all parameters a decreasing trend became apparent. Thus it is suggested that
sewage sludge and soil mix may be further exploited as a standard potting media
and that the addition of 60 % or more sewage sludge to potting media is not
recommended for cut roses.
