Investigation of Relation Amongst the Sediment Chronology, Heavy Metal Contamination and Seismic Activity in North Aegean Sea

In present study, two cores and fifteen surficial sediment samples were investigated in terms of chronology and pollution levels. Lead-210 (Polonium-210) activity concentrations were measured by using alpha spectrometry. Sediment dating was determined by utilizing Lead-210 (CF) model. Average sedimentation rate is 0.344 +/- 0.009 cm y-1 in cores. Sedimentation rates along the cores display non-systematic increases in both sediment cores. Metal concentrations were evaluated by using pollution indexes (EF, AF, PLI, Igeo). Pollution degree of the study area was evaluated by using four pollution index. Although some element concentrations are high level in the surficial sediment samples, study area generally is unpolluted in terms of measured elements.
