In this paper, the usability of ozone to remove the optical brightener from cotton fabric is undertaken. For this aim, the direct type optical brightener based on stilbene, with three different concentration (0.1-0.3-0.5%), was applied to the cotton fabric and then optical bleached samples were ozonated for 15, 30, and 60 minutes. The achieved results clearly indicate that ozonation can be used efficiently to decolorize the optical bleached samples. The efficiency of the process increased with the rise in ozonation time, but it should be paid attention to choose the ideal process time because of the increase in bursting strength loss of fabric. Also, a new patterning method has been developed for optical bleached cotton fabric with this study. It can be said that this new process provides similar results with tie-dyeing, which is not appropriate for optical bleaching, in the light of achieved results.
