Abstract

Several manufacturing methods have been adopted to modify old grinding machines. The purpose of the present study has two aspects: the design of a novel bear housing and a rigid ball screw system, and their exact manufacture to provide accuracy and reduce voices at the cross axis. The components of the new ball screw system were manufactured and they were integrated in a legendary Jones Shipman grinding machine.
