The aim of this article is to analyse the translation strategies and approaches of the well-known Turkish translator Selma Türkis Noyan using her biographical background. It is of crucial importance that Noyan mainly translates historical European texts that were written in the form of diaries and history books written during the times of the Ottoman Empire and contain reports about the Ottomans. Within the framework of this study, it is intended to show that translation is not just a mere language transfer, but that numerous decision-making factors are involved in the translation process. And in order to show the influence of the translator as a pivotal decisionmaker on the translation, the biography and some of Selma Türkis Noyan's translations shall be examined in this regard, which tries to disclose their influences on her translation approach and thus contribute to an understanding of the biographical influences of translators on their approach to translation strategies.
