Dr. Yeşim Akkoç graduated from the Medical Faculty of Ege University in 1989. In 1990 she began her specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Ege University and in 1994 she became a physiatrist.
In 1997, after spending a month as a guest observer in the urodynamic investigation laboratory of Professor of Urology Dr. Manfred Stöhrer, a world-renowned expert in neurogenic bladder in Murnau, Germany; she cofounded the Ege University Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department’s urodynamics laboratory. Dr. Akkoç, who has been working on neurogenic bladder rehabilitation since 1997, continues her work today focusing especially on urodynamic analysis and bladder rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injuries and multiple sclerosis. Additionally, Dr. Akkoç, who also has many years of experience in urogynecologic rehabilitation, serves patients in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department on specific weekdays. She has also served as the group president of the “Neurogenic and Non-neurogenic Bladder Research Group” operating under the auspices of the Turkish Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since 2010.
She has authored about 70 articles nationally and 35 internationally. Furthermore Dr. Akkoç has given numerous presentations in her country and abroad, and she has authored several book chapters in her field.
Dr. Yeşim Akkoç, became an associate professor in 2000, and was promoted to professor in 2006. Dr. Akkoç, who still continues her work in the Ege University Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department, is married and a mother of two children.
